I brought my 2003 nissan altima in for a check they said that the cannister in the rear had a broken bolt and?

rear had a broken bolt and was siliconed in place. can one see that. they said to correct (replace) it needed the back end removed. can they see the canister from under a hoist or are they perhaps scamming?
